Learning and Methodological Facilities

Training system for cadets (students) has been brought into full compliance with STCW requirements.

 Educational and methodical work is one of priority areas of department. Development of educational and methodological support of disciplines is carried out by department leading specialists.

Quality of training is ensured by:

1. Using of training base.

2. Academic discipline, which foundations ensure acquisition of competence.

3. List of academic disciplines has been updated according to corresponding volume of hours and forms of conducting classes.

4. Functions and areas of competence in accordance with STCW 73/95 (2010).

5. Mastering educational methodological complexes of practical training cycle, which are assimilated and used in practice.

6. Methods of demonstrating competence, their criteria and assessments.

Teachers investigated research topic “Theoretical and methodological complexes for implementation of competence-based approach in system of multi-level training of specialists in maritime industry”, KSMA. Now they continue to work on implementation of plan for 2018 academic year entitled “Gradual plan for implementation of competence-based approach with elements of communicative form of training in organization of KSMA educational process”.

Every day, department conducts activities aimed at improving teaching methods and level of assessment objectivity. To this end, department is working on development of forms for examination and control tasks and tests in all academic disciplines. Correspondence of learning outcomes of cadets (students) to requirements for certain educational level and ensuring timely correction of educational process is determined.

Quality of classes is ensured by:

• using of modern information technologies;

• using of modern radio navigation and electric navigation devices;

• using of global maritime communications systems for search and rescue;

• using of educational documentation to support educational process;

• publication of necessary scientific and methodological literature.

Department applies modern measures aimed at improving teaching methods, namely:

• development of distance learning in system of higher education and lifelong learning;

• preparation of scientific and methodological recommendations about use of information technology in educational process.

    Much attention is paid to cadets’ individual work, which is provided by system of educational and methodological complexes provided for study of specific academic discipline: textbooks, teaching and methodological aids, lecture material, and electronic materials.

Department teaches disciplines:

1. Ensuring of navigation safety.

2. Radio navigation equipment.

3. Electro navigation equipment.

4. Electro radio navigation equipment.

5. Modern automated ship traffic control systems.

6. Technical means of navigation.

7. Global maritime communications for search and rescue.

8. Information systems for technical support of ships.

9. Automatic complexes of navigation.

10. Automated navigation complexes.

11. Hydrometeorological support of navigation.

12. Global maritime communications for search and rescue.

13. Ship technical means of navigation and external communication.    

To date, materials on educational and methodological complex of disciplines for all courses have been prepared in full.  Lecture courses, methodological recommendations for performing laboratory tasks, practical, seminars, and for performing computational and graphic, control works, recommendations for organizing cadets’ / students’ work, term papers and theses are posted.

 Department constantly analyzes provision of KSMA library with scientific, educational and methodological literature in special disciplines.

   At department stand there are:

1) schedule of individual lessons with cadets;

2) schedule of teachers’ consultations and master classes.

3) plan of teachers’ classes mutual visits;

4) information about open classes.

  Department conducts monthly master classes for cadets (students) of Academy and College in presence of teaching staff. Acquired knowledge, abilities, skills by cadets (students) are implemented in student works at appropriate competitions.
