Professional Development and Training of Employees of the Department

  • From 10 May to 14 June 2023, a leading specialist of the Department took part in the Grant Writing Course, developed by Cormack Consultancy Group as part of the Twinning Initiative aimed at supporting universities in Ukraine. As a result of the course, participants got acquainted with the funding instruments, donor databases, basics of grant writing, pitching, budgeting, grant management, building consortia, etc.
  • On 09 February 2024, specialists of the International Affairs Department joined the webinar “How the Digital Europe Programme Works: from Application to Grant Opportunities”, organised by the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine, GIZ Ukraine and CIVITTA. In September 2022, Ukraine signed an agreement on participation in the EU Digital Europe Programme (2021-2027). The project is aimed at promoting the implementation of digital solutions in all fields of the country’s economy and public life with focus on the following areas: – artificial intelligence, data and cloud services; – high-performance computing; – advanced digital skills; – widespread use of digital technologies in economy and society. The event was attended by over 100 people representing different regions of Ukraine. During the session, experts explained how the programme works, its importance for the Ukrainian institutions’ integration into the EU; commented on the navigation through the programme’s roadmap and how to apply for funding; informed about various grants, projects and funding sources for potential ideas.
  • On 12 February 2024, specialists of the International Affairs Department participated in the online masterclass “Rebooting for Rankings: Optimising Ukraine’s Position in the World University Rankings”, organised by Cormack Consultancy Group. Duncan Ross, a representative of Times Higher Education (THE), presented an analysis of Ukraine’s position in the world university rankings, highlighted the challenges and opportunities for Ukrainian universities to participate in the Times Higher Education ranking and provided a detailed description of the data collection process for THE.
  • In order to promote the establishment of the young sci-tech elite of Ukraine, Lviv Polytechnic National University hosted a training to study European experience and identify the main trends in quality management systems for their development, implementation and certification on 14-15 March, 2024. KSMA staff joined the training, which was conducted by specialists from Lviv Polytechnic National University, and a number of operating companies and institutions, including Global Logic, Leoni Wiring Systems, and State Research Institute “Systema”.
  • On 11 April, 2024, specialists of the International Affairs Department joined a seminar “Internal Quality Assurance in Higher Education Institutions”, organised by the Centre for Quality Assessment in Higher Education (SKVC), Lithuania. Representatives of FH Münster University of Applied Sciences (Germany), University of Antwerp (Belgium) and Klaipėda State University of Applied Sciences (Lithuania) shared with participants the specific features of internal quality assurance at HEIs.
  • On April 16, 2024, the head of the International Affairs department, Alona Yurzhenko, successfully completed the online course “Project Management in the Public Sector” with the amount of 0.2 ECTS credits/ 6 academic hours.
  • On May 7, 2024, an informational webinar “Features of Participation in the EU LIFE and Copernicus Programs” was held by the NGO AEI together with the Lviv City Institute.
  • On May 21, 2024, the Head of the International Affairs Department, Alona YURZHENKO, took part in the online conference “EDU 2024: Promotion, Technologies, Team, Analytics” from SendPulse Academy!
  • Participation in the summer school of the project “Digital Competence for e-Government” from the eDEBUT team (Jean Monnet Module).
  • Alla Paziak, an employee of the International Relations Department, participated in the round table “Strategy for the Development of Higher Education in Ukraine in Emergency Situations and Martial Law Crises. Building a Network of Higher Education Institutions in Ukraine” (September 23, 2024).
  • On October 17, 2024, representatives of the International Affairs Department of Kherson State Maritime Academy joined the training seminar for internationalization managers “Internationalization and the EU Erasmus+ Program”, which was held by the National Erasmus+ Office in Ukraine and a team of experts on higher education reform. The seminar consisted of two sessions: Features of coordination, networks, platforms and Features of program implementation and more.
  • On November 7, 2024, the XIII International Scientific and Practical Conference “European Integration of Higher Education in Ukraine in the Context of the Bologna Process. Digitalization and Quality Assurance of Higher Education to Ensure Equal Access to Quality Higher Education” was held, organized and held by the National Erasmus+ Office in Ukraine together with the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, the Institute of Higher Education of the National Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of Ukraine, the National Agency for Quality Assurance in Higher Education, the Union of Rectors of Higher Education Institutions of Ukraine, as well as the team of National Experts on Higher Education Reform of the EU Erasmus+ Program (HERE team). The event was attended by Alla Paziak, a representative of the International Affais Department of Kherson State Maritime Academy.
  • Alla Paziak, an employee of the International Affairs Department, joined the online events of the INTERNATIONAL WEEK “INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION OF UNIVERSITIES AND GRANT ACTIVITIES”. The online events were held within the framework of the implementation of the Erasmus+ project BOOST (Bringing Opportunities and Organizational Success To Small Local Universities in Ukraine). The events of the International Week were held online on November 26 and December 5, 12, 16, 2024.
  • Representatives of the International Affairs Department of Kherson State Maritime Academy, Alona Yurzhenko and Alla Paziak, participated in the GrantWay training course from the IP office and partners, which will help entrepreneurs, scientists, and public figures master key aspects of writing grant applications for their successful attraction.
  • On July 28, 2025, the head of the International Affairs Department of Kherson State Maritime Academy, Alona Yurzhenko, successfully completed the online course “Ukraine’s Accession to the EU” of the educational online platform Zrozmily.
  • On September 19, 2025, employees of the International Affairs Department joined the online meeting “Strategic Partnership for Development: A Proposal for Ukrainian Universities”, organized by the Global Coalition for Ukrainian Studies – an initiative launched by the First Lady of Ukraine Olena Zelenska.
  • During September 23-24, 2025, employees of KSMA International Affairs Department took part in the All-Ukrainian practical online course “Artificial Intelligence in Education: PRO level”. The course combined modern theoretical knowledge and practical tasks on the use of artificial intelligence in education. The speakers were leading experts in digitalization, artificial intelligence and educational technologies, scientists, teachers and practitioners who implement AI in the educational process.
  • Head of International Affairs Department, Alona YURZHENKO, took part in the Training Programme for Academic Managers is a unique initiative of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.   • The second cycle of the Academic Managers’ Professional Development Programme for university leadership teams in Ukraine has started. This cycle is designed so that training is directly synchronised with the current policies and needs of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine (MES): from modernising the network of higher education institutions (HEIs) and strengthening managerial capacity to student-centred approaches, the development of dual education, and transparent financing under the updated funding formula.   • Head of the International Relations Department, Alena Yurzhenko, completed the 3-week course “Master Your Project: Project Management” (organizer: Fondazione Comuniataria di Agrigento e Trapani), completed on 07.10.2025.
  • The third module of the “Professional Development Programme for Academic Managers” has been completed.
