On 26 December, another webinar was held to share ideas about how e-learning courses on the Moodle platform are set up and what they contain. This time,  English  Language Department for Marine Engineers hosted the event. Experienced teachers, Olexandra Litikova and Maryna Ohiienko, who initiated the department’s e-learning courses, familiarized the invited representatives of English Language Department for Deck Officers with the details of the organisation, format, and content of highly-specialized training courses.

The discussion was mainly about the need to have different ways of teaching English to future marine engineers and marine electrical engineers, whose training programmes are very different, starting from the fourth semester.

The discussion and comparative analysis of the electronic training course formats from both departments revealed some differences in their design approaches and the placement of key components. Differences in the conditions and requirements for student learning were also observed.

Webinar participants agreed on the need to revise specific teaching strategies aimed at developing different types of language skills, particularly writing and speaking. Special attention was given to the need to introduce new or update existing rules, methods, and controls, as well as to improve the criteria for evaluating test results.

Following the event, participants agreed that the effectiveness of the Moodle platform as a powerful educational resource directly depends on regular and systematic updating and improvement.
