Honour of the Academy

Hryhorii Shchedrin – Vice Admiral. Hero of the Soviet Union. Graduated in 1932. Commander of the submarine «C–56». His name is placed on board the ship, in the square in Petropavlovsk on Kamchatka, in Park of Glory in Kherson. A memorial plaque has been erected in his honour at Maritime College. He is an honorary citizen of Tuapse. Honorary cadet of Maritime College. The boat «C–56» is placed on the shores of Golden Horn Bay, was awarded the title of Guards and the Order of the Red Banner. After the war and graduation from Military Academy of the General Staff, he was a commander of the Kamchatka military fleet, a chairman of the standing commission of the state reception of ships of the Navy, an editor-in-chief of the magazine «Maritime Collection». Awarded the Order of Lenin.

Leonid Demin – Rear Admiral. Graduated in 1917. Professor, Doctor of Geographical Sciences, Engineer. His name is placed on board the ship and three geographical objects: a group of islands in a small ridge, a bay in the Arctic Ocean, the underwater height of the Kuril Islands, the geographical object «Knight». Midshipman on the cruiser «Aurora». He is an honorary cadet, an indispensable author of the naval atlas for the 1st volume of which he was awarded the State Prize. He was awarded the Gold Medal and the reward of F.M. Lütke.

Mykola Kolomoytsev – Rear Admiral. Graduated in 1886. In 1902 he was а commander of icebreaker «Yermak». During the Russo-Japanese War he was а commander of the «Large». In 1910 he was а commander of the battleship «Slava». In 1912 he was а commander of the first cruiser division in the Baltic. His name is placed on board a ship. He took part in the exploration of the island of Taimyr, as well as in the Battle of Tsushima. He was awarded a golden sword.

Pavlo Kolesnik – Rear Admiral. Graduated in 1936. Participant of the Spanish events. During the war he commanded the Ladoga Fleet – «Small Hunter», later – a group of ships. His name is placed on board a ship. He was awarded the Order of the Red Banner, Alexander Nevsky Order, and the Order of the Patriotic War.

Dmitry Soroka. Graduated in 1921. During the Great Patriotic War he led the convoy G18 and the ship «Tbilisi». He drove a caravan of 40 vehicles. The crew repulsed 10 aircraft attacks and evaded 8 torpedoes. He served 56 years in the Navy. Of these, he was the captain of «Russia» for 20 years. Boris Morgun. Graduated in 1923. He commanded many ships and submarines in Bulgaria. He was a teacher of Sevastopol Naval Academy. The captain of the 2nd rank, the captain of the whaling fleet «Soviet Ukraine». Commanded the division of gunboats of the Azov military flotilla of Admiral Gorlikov. Head of the Black Sea Fleet.

Zinaida Luk’yanova. Graduated in 1936. Her whole life was dedicated to sea. She worked as a dispatcher at Kherson seaport.

Mykola Yermolenko. Graduated in 1914. In 1917 he served in Kerch on warships. In 1920 – on the Black Sea on the ships «Ilyich», «Dnieper» and «Neva». During the war in Spain, he drove children out on a ship and was awarded the Order of Lenin. In 1942 he was the head of Dixon Port. He served in the Navy for 50 years.

In 1971 he graduated from Odessa Higher Naval Engineering School, and since 1977 – the captain of large tanker (150 thousand tons) «Kuzbass» type «Crimea». From 1985-88 – the captain on large-capacity tankers of the Iranian oil company under contract. He was awarded the Order of the Red Banner. Honorary employee of Ministry of Navy.

Mykola Ageenko. Graduated in 1951. He was awarded a gold medal in 1977 and a silver medal in 1968. In 1976 he was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor, a diploma of the Presidium of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.

Pavel Alekseev. Graduated in 1925. Sea captain. A raid tugboat was named after him. He was awarded the Order of Lenin.

Yakiv Lapin. Graduated in 1899. In solidarity with the rebellious battleship Potemkin, he interrupted his voyage on the ship «Svyatoslav» and returned to port. And in 1924, in one of English ports, he raised the Red Flag of the Soviet Republic on the steamer «Jupiter» and passed it to our representative. After successful graduation he worked on the steamer «Krasin».

Volodymyr Kaznacheev. Graduated in 1951. Honorary cadet of Maritime College, the 3rd assistant at the «Baltic». Dispatcher, senior dispatcher of Kherson Shipping Agency, and in 1957 became its Head. In 1964 – a representative in Algeria, France, CEO of a large commercial shipping company in Belgium. He was awarded the Order of Lenin.

Luka Kadetskyi. Graduated in 1915. In 1920 he headed the Dnieper-Bug Water Police Department. In 1921 he was commissioner for the operation of the Lower Dnieper-Bug Shipping Company and at the same time Chairman of the Revolutionary Committee. The first captain of the Soviet passenger ship «Adjaristan». He had worked in the Navy for 50 years. Honorary worker of Ministry of Navy.

Alexander Hrihoriev. Graduated in 1957. Captain-expert in Cuba. In 1973 – the captain of «Professor Kudrevich». He had worked in Argentina in Buenos Aires for 10 years. The captain of the Passenger Liner «D. Shostakevich». Honorary employee of Ministry of Navy.

Anatoliy Kagarava. Graduated in 1927. The captain of the ship «Sibiryakov». In 1942 he met the Nazi cruiser Admiral Shire in the Kara Sea and joined an unequal battle with him. «Sibiryakov» died as a hero. 11 members of the team together with the captain were taken prisoner.
