History and Culture of Ukraine
The discipline “History and Culture of Ukraine” is aimed at forming a holistic view of the historical development of the Ukrainian people on the basis of a new concept of the history of Ukraine; acquaintance with the achievements in the field of material and spiritual culture of the peoples who lived and live on the territory of the Ukrainian lands; formation of awareness of the role and place of Ukraine in world history; development of skills of practical application of historical knowledge and general competencies for the formation of an impartial attitude to other ethnic groups, individuals and their role in history and cultural process; developing a critical attitude to the analysis of historical material and one’s own view of historical phenomena and events

The discipline “Materials Science and Technology of Materials” is aimed at forming in applicants knowledge about structural materials and their properties, methods of their production, the main technological methods of forming parts; gaining knowledge about the physical nature of the phenomena that occur in materials under the influence of various factors in production and operation, their impact on the properties of materials, teach the theory and practice of heat treatment and other ways to strengthen materials that give high reliability and durability of machine parts, tools and other means

The discipline “Information Technology” is aimed at the formation of applicants for theoretical and practical skills in the use of information and communication technologies for the effective solution of problems of search, processing, storage, presentation, transmission of information; development of skills to independently master and rationally use general and special purpose software, purposefully search and systematize data, use electronic means of data exchange
Engineering Graphics
The discipline “Engineering Graphics” is aimed at the formation of students’ theoretical skills of constructing spatial objects on the plane and practical skills in performing and reading technical drawings; development of applicants’ spatial imagination, constructive-geometric thinking, ability to make independent decisions
Theoretical Mechanics
The discipline “Theoretical Mechanics” is aimed at the formation of students’ theoretical and practical skills in solving problems of practical orientation, using the basic laws of theoretical mechanics; understanding of quantitative and qualitative patterns observed in nature
Applied Mechanics
The discipline “Applied Mechanics” is aimed at forming in the applicants a holistic view of the mechanical processes occurring in the ship’s equipment, acquaintance with advanced technologies and methods of calculation of ship structures; formation of practical skills of research and calculation of the stress-strain state of parts and assemblies of ship machines and mechanisms
Ecology and Environmental Protection
The discipline “Ecology and Environmental Protection” is aimed at forming in applicants knowledge about the basic patterns and features of the impact of anthropogenic factors on the environment and its reverse effect; formation of skills and abilities in ecological orientation and effective implementation of environmental measures in professional activity
Maritime English
The study of the discipline “Maritime English” is focused on the formation of competence “Use of IMO standard phrases for communication at sea and the use of English in written and oral forms”, defined by the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (Section II, Table A-II / I).
The discipline “Maritime English” aims to develop general maritime (1-2 semesters) and professional (3-8 semesters) communication skills. The purpose of training is to master cadets (students) in English for specific purposes as a means of communication and implementation in this process of education, training and personal development of the cadet (student), including the formation of his communicative competence as a means of design or understanding of statements in professional communication.
The need to study this discipline is due to the specifics of the professional activities of future electricians who need to communicate effectively at sea with the crew of their ship and other vessels, with representatives of the port, correctly understand the orders for their proper implementation and be able to report on actions taken, know the terminology regarding the designation of ship parts and ship equipment. Not only accident-free traffic, but also human life and environmental safety largely depend on effective communication between all representatives of the maritime industry. That is why the study of this discipline is determined by the international conventions SOLAS and STCW a necessary condition for the formation of general professional competence of future specialists of the merchant fleet
Induction Course
The main purpose of the discipline “Induction Course” is to create a stable motivation for successful study in the chosen specialization. The purpose of mastering the discipline “Introduction to the specialty” is to prepare applicants for higher maritime education to master the basic educational program, acquaintance with the history of maritime education, history of KSMA, initial acquaintance with basic international and national standards of safe operation of ships, the concept of international standards of training and certification watchkeeping, in accordance with the requirements of the STCW Convention – 78/95 as amended (Tables A-III / 1, A-III / 2), obtaining knowledge of the organization of service on ships, the structure of the organization of transport by sea; typical structure of a modern sea vessel, elements of its hull, ship mechanisms and systems; purpose, composition, structural schemes of the ship’s power plant, main, emergency and auxiliary mechanisms and systems of the ship, their placement on the ship and in the engine rooms; technical and economic indicators: efficiency, reliability, maneuverability, environmental protection issues, ship technical means to prevent pollution of the world’s oceans and atmosphere, issues of rational use of fuels and lubricants, safety of navigation of ships
Basic Safety and Labor Protection on Board
The purpose of the discipline is to master and understand basic theoretical knowledge, which involves the implementation of measures and organizational approaches necessary to comply with the provisions of international conventions such as: International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea 1974, International Convention on the Prevention of Pollution from Ships, 1973, the International Convention on the Training, Certification and Watchkeeping of Seafarers, 1978 (as amended by the Manila Amendments, 2010), the International Labor Organization, 2006 Maritime Labour Convention, etc. International Maritime Organization standards and ship security are a regulatory discipline in accordance with IMO Model Course 7.03. The study of this discipline is preceded by a course in Maritime Law. In particular, the discipline serves as a theoretical basis for further study of such disciplines as: “Life safety and basics of labor protection”, “Ecology and environmental protection”, “Prevention of marine pollution”, “Rules and regulations of classification societies”

Theory and Structure of Ship and Propellers
The purpose of the discipline is the formation of students’ fundamental concepts of seaworthiness of ships: buoyancy, stability, unsinkability, maneuverability, necessary for the conscious and competent operation of ship structures and devices in normal conditions and in case of non-standard or emergency situations. The task of the discipline is to study the methods of calculating the seaworthiness that change during the operation of the vessel, recommendations for the control of buoyancy, stability, unsinkability and running, as well as theoretical and technical means of their provision; acquisition of knowledge and competence of a ship’s mechanic both at the level of management and at the level of operation in accordance with the requirements of the Convention and the STCW Code in the new edition of the Manila Amendments 2012 – Tables A-III / 1 and A-III / 2
Basics of Ship Power Engineering
The purpose of the discipline ” Basics of Ship Power Engineering ” is to train highly qualified specialists with modern scientific and technical knowledge of the basics of obtaining, converting and transmitting energy by ship power plant, basics of theory and design of ship power equipment, skills to assess the parameters of basic processes in this equipment during the operation of the ship’s power plant. The discipline provides knowledge and competence of the ship mechanic both at the level of operation and at the level of management in accordance with the requirements of the Convention and the STCW Code in the new edition of the Manila Amendments 2012 – Tables AIII / 1 and AIII / 2. The student will acquire the necessary knowledge and skills to solve production and technical problems and operation of Ship Power Plants
Technical Thermodynamics and Heat Transfer
The discipline “Technical Thermodynamics and Heat Transfer” is aimed at forming knowledge of the fundamental theoretical foundations of heat engines and power plants, the laws of mutual conversion of different types of energy, familiarization and use of heat and mass transfer methods to solve engineering problems related to heat transfer. The tasks of the discipline are to form theoretical knowledge and practical skills of future ship mechanics in accordance with the purpose of the discipline
Hydromechanics and Ship Hydraulic Drive System
The purpose of studying the discipline is to form in the applicants a system of professional knowledge and skills in hydromechanics and ship hydraulic drive, which can be applied during practical work on ships of the sea and river fleet
Electrical Engineering and Electrical Equipment of Ships
The purpose of the discipline “Electrical Engineering and Electrical Equipment of Ships” is to form students’ knowledge of the fundamentals of the theory of electrical engineering and electrical machines, design and operation of ship electrical equipment, devices and systems of automatic control and management of ship power plants and electric drives
Conventions and Regulations of the International Maritime Organization
The purpose of the discipline is the acquisition and understanding of basic theoretical knowledge, which involves the implementation of measures and organizational approaches necessary to comply with the provisions of international conventions such as: International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea 1974, International Convention on prevention of pollution from ships 1973, International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers 1978 (as amended by the Manila Amendments 2010), Maritime Labour Convention, etc
Technical Chemistry and Technology of Working Substances Use
The purpose of the discipline is to form competencies of future officers of river and sea transport in the field of technical chemistry, selection and preparation of water for use in ship boilers, internal combustion engine coolers and other systems, in desalinators, ballast and fire systems and in everyday life operation, as well as the preparation and use of fuels and lubricants of various types and brands in accordance with the basic regulations, requirements and rules of their manufacturers and shipowners in accordance with the qualifications of the chosen specialty
Ship Auxiliary Plants and Systems
The purpose of studying the discipline ” Ship Auxiliary Plants and Systems ” is the formation of competencies in the field of purpose, construction and technical operation of auxiliary equipment, mechanisms and installations, as well as systems in performing shipboard tasks, established in accordance with STCW-78/95 (table A -III / 1, A-III / 2).
Ship Boiler Plants
The purpose of studying the discipline “Ship Boiler Plants ” is to acquaint higher education seekers with the current state and prospects of knowledge development and formation of higher education students’ ideas about the theory, design and operation of ship boiler plants of various types, methods of maintenance and operation.
The main objectives of the discipline are:
– mastering the basics of water vapor production;
– mastering the skills of selection and calculation of equipment of ship boilers; – mastering the skills of operation and repair of ship boilers of various types.
Ship Internal Combustion Engines
The purpose of studying the discipline is to provide theoretical and practical training for technically competent and efficient operation of modern marine internal combustion engines and their systems, which are able to choose the optimal and safe modes of their operation in specific operating conditions, as well as address issues related to them, technical repair, maintenance and repair
Ship Turbine Plants
The purpose of the discipline is to provide students with a knowledge base on the whole set of issues related to the principle of operation and modes of operation of turbines, their operation, types of design of parts and components of turbines and thermal processes occurring in them
Ship Refrigeration Unit

Ship Cargo and Deck Machinery
The purpose of studying the discipline ” Ship Cargo and Deck Machinery ” is to acquaint students with the current state of knowledge and the formation of students’ ideas about the basics of theory, design and operation of ship cargo and deck mechanisms, skills to assess the state of their elements, skills to organize the safe operation of this equipment. The main objectives of the discipline are: to study the basics of the theory, design and operation of ship’s cargo and deck machinery, methods for estimating the load of individual parts and their replacement over time, providing understanding of the impact of these loads on durability and operational factors, processes occurring during start-up and braking. in the order of individual parts, the study of the norm of their rejection in accordance with the requirements of the Register
Maritime Law
The purpose of the discipline is to master and understand higher education students basic theoretical knowledge concerning the concept and system of maritime law, current issues of legal protection of the marine environment and maritime safety, study the features of contractual relations (contract of carriage, contract of carriage, cruise ship passenger contract, marine insurance contract, etc.)
Safe Watchkeeping and Engine Crew Management
The purpose of studying the discipline in the form of a system of abilities (competencies), typical tasks, is set in accordance with the requirements of the international STCW Convention – 78/95 (Table A-III / I). The purpose of the discipline “Safe Watchkeeping and Engine Crew Management” is to acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary for the independent use of regulations of maritime law at the state, regional and international levels; acquaintance of applicants with safe management of both technical means and equipment; formation and improvement of the culture of thinking of future professionals in terms of the use of tools and methods of standardization in the training and certification of seafarers when on watch, and the ability to optimally manage subordinates
Automation of Ship Power Plants and Electronic means of Control and Communication
The purpose of the discipline “Automation of Ship Power Plants and Electronic means of Control and Communication” is to provide students with higher theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the maintenance of automation units of ship power plants in accordance with the requirements of the IMO. The task of the course is to form in the applicants a system of knowledge and skills for troubleshooting automation units of ship power plants and components of control and communication systems, as well as their scheduled maintenance
Technical Use of Ship Technical Equipment
The purpose of the discipline is to provide theoretical and practical training of applicants for competent and effective technical use of modern ship technical means of their systems at different modes of operation of ship power plants, acquisition of skills and abilities to use ship technical means in emergency and emergency situations in accordance with international requirements of STCW- 78/95 (Tables A-III / 1, A-III / 2).
Technical Maintenance and Repair of Ship Technical Equipment
The purpose of the discipline is to provide theoretical and practical training of applicants for competent and effective maintenance and repair of modern ship equipment and their systems, acquiring skills and abilities for safe and efficient work, find and determine the causes of failures and failures of equipment and systems in accordance with requirements of the STCW – 78/95 (Tables A-III / 1, A-III / 2).
Induction Practice
The task of induction ptactice is to consolidate and deepen theoretical knowledge, gain practical skills in the maintenance and operation of ship’s mechanical equipment. The trainee must acquire skills in performing mechanical work, installation and partial repair of ship’s equipment, units, mechanisms, fittings, etc.
Industrial Practice
The purpose of industrial practice is practical training of a ship mechanic capable of working on ships and enterprises of the merchant fleet with modern technical systems and complexes; training of a young specialist qualified to operate and repair this equipment.
The task of sailing practice is to consolidate and deepen theoretical knowledge, obtain skills and practical skills for maintenance and continuous operation of ship equipment, mechanisms, units, elements of ship systems, as well as the collection and receipt of certain information
Sailing practice is carried out on production or training and production vessels.
Upon completion of sailing practice, trainee cadets can take an exam to obtain a working profession. Cadets who have passed such an exam are awarded a working qualification in the specialty and are issued a certificate. At the stage of sailing practice, cadets consolidate and improve knowledge and skills in the maintenance of systems and mechanisms of the ship’s main and auxiliary power plant; acquire practical skills in maintenance, marine technical means, auxiliary and emergency diesel generators, boiler units, cargo and deck mechanisms, electrical equipment systems and assessment of their technical condition, as well as gain skills in watch maintenance of the ship’s power plant
