Representatives of the KSMA academic community gained valuable experience and exchanged ideas while participating in the OPITO Global 2026 international conference in Malaysia.

The OPITO Global 2026 international conference kicked off on October 13, 2026, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, bringing together industry representatives, safety experts, and professionals specializing in vocational training and competency development. The conference theme was “A Shared Future of Safety: One Workforce. Many Sectors.”

As part of a professional internship, Serhii Dudchenko—an Associate Professor in the Department of Navigation and Ship Handling at the Kherson State Maritime Academy (KSMA)—participated in the international forum. The event focused on modern approaches to vocational training, safety assurance, and human capital development within sectors characterized by stringent safety requirements.

The event program emphasized the harmonization of international safety standards, the establishment of universal professional competency frameworks, the mutual recognition of qualifications, and the practical implementation of safety principles. Particular attention was paid to the exchange of experience across various industries, including LNG, mining, oil refining, and offshore wind energy. For the KSMA academic and educational community, participation in such international events offers an opportunity to engage with current global trends in professional training, exchange best practices, and incorporate international approaches into the educational process and the development of professional competencies for future maritime specialists.

Participation in OPITO Global 2026 fosters the strengthening of international professional ties and the integration of global expertise into the training of highly qualified maritime industry professionals.
