Choosing a profession is perhaps one of the most important decisions in the life of every teenager, especially when, due to Russian military aggression, this choice has to be made far from Ukraine. On April 1, 2026, students of grades 8–11 of the Ukrainian Saturday School “Oberig” in Lisbon had a unique opportunity to look into the world of professional future thanks to a meeting with a representative of the Kherson State Maritime Academy (KSMA), associate professor of English Language Department for Marine Engineers, Litikova O.I.
The meeting took place in a warm and friendly atmosphere. It was not just a lecture, but a lively dialogue, during which the students learned about the history of this “glorious institution” and about the prospects that maritime education opens up.
The high school students listened with genuine interest about how English is becoming the key to a career in the world’s oceans. They actively asked questions: from the admission requirements to the specifics of training and future employment. It was noticeable how many high school students had the same light in their eyes, which indicates genuine interest. The Kherson State Maritime Academy once again proved that it is a real forge of personnel for the world fleet!
