With the assistance of the director of Kherson Lyceum No. 52 “Perspektiva” of the Kherson City Council, Lyudmila Shalaieva, an online meeting of graduating students with representatives of the Kherson State Maritime Academy was held on December 19, 2025.
The meeting presented maritime professions that can be obtained while studying at the academy. In particular, the work of masters, marine engineers and marine electrical engineers and the possibilities of their career growth were discussed. The Academy’s dual education system, which successfully combines onboard training with academic study, was highlighted as a key advantage.
In response to questions from meeting participants, Ivan Riabukha, Head of the Center for Simulation Training, Postgraduate Education, and Advanced Training, presented a report on the intricacies of organizing training under martial law. He also touched on current dual degree programs and employment opportunities for academy graduates. Recommendations on how to use preferential admissions conditions, calculate competitive scores taking into account all factors, etc. were also found to be useful.
The presentation focused on the role of English in professional activities of seafarers. Natalia Ohorodnyk, Head of the Department of English for Marine Engineers, familiarized those present at the meeting with the specifics of English language training at the academy, which is intensive and exclusively professionally oriented. At the end of the meeting, the parties agreed on further communication during the Open Days.
